Sardar Yaqoob Nasir raises Balochistan highway issues at NA communications committee

LORALAI: Member of the National Assembly Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir attended a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Communications.

The meeting reviewed in detail the national highways managed by the National Highway Authority (NHA) across the country, especially in Balochistan. It also looked at the key road network, ongoing development projects and the travel problems faced by the public.

The meeting held a detailed discussion on the present condition of national highways in different parts of Balochistan, especially in NA252, including Loralai, Musakhel, Barkhan and Duki. It also discussed broken roads, repair and rehabilitation work, ongoing and pending projects, and the travel difficulties faced by the public.

Priorities for national highways

Pointing out the problems faced by the people of Balochistan, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir said national highways are not only an important link between different Districts and cities, but also play a basic role in the province’s economic, trade and social activity.

He stressed that highway construction and repair projects, especially in remote and backward areas, should be completed on a priority basis so that people get safe, comfortable and better travel facilities.

He also stressed timely completion of the NHA’s ongoing and pending development projects, and called for quality of work, transparency and the effective and proper use of public funds.

He said unnecessary delays in development projects not only cause hardship to the public but also put an extra burden on national resources. He said projects should therefore be monitored and completed within the set time.

Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir also told the participants about the road network, road repair and rehabilitation, traffic flow, passenger safety and other problems on various highways. He demanded that the NHA speed up practical progress on the relevant projects to remove public hardship without delay.

He particularly stressed the need to bring Balochistan’s national highway network in line with modern requirements, improve road conditions, reduce the risk of accidents and give travellers a safe environment.

The meeting also stressed that in a vast province like Balochistan, a better highway system will not only help ease the public’s travel difficulties but also play an important role in agricultural and trade activity, business links, job opportunities and the growth of the local economy.

Pledge to represent the public

Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir pledged that, as a public representative, he would keep effectively highlighting the basic problems faced by the people of Balochistan, especially NA252. He said he would stay in constant contact with the relevant institutions to improve infrastructure, including national highways.

He said it is the responsibility of the government and the relevant institutions to resolve public problems on a priority basis and to ensure that the benefits of development projects truly reach the people.

The main aim of the meeting was to improve travel facilities for the public across the country, especially in Balochistan, raise the quality of highways, and make the implementation of NHA development projects faster and more effective.
