TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia are continuing. Their aim is to create new security arrangements for countries of the region that do not involve foreign military intervention.

In a statement on the Social Media platform X, Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was trying to establish a new system of regional security through cooperation and mutual consultation among the countries of the region.

According to the report, senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan met Iranian officials in Tehran last week. It was the first high-level meeting between officials of the three countries and Iran since August.

Saudi Arabia said the purpose of the visit was to open paths to talks and to prevent a return of military tension in the region.

The diplomatic development comes at a time when the effects of the war by the United States and Israel against Iran, which began in late February, have spread to other countries of the region. Fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen has also intensified in recent weeks.

The ongoing contacts between Iran and Saudi Arabia are being described as part of efforts to ease growing tension in the region and to build consensus on new regional security arrangements.
