KARACHI: Karachi may face a temporary water shortage or disruption in supply after a cable fault cut the power supply to the Dhabeji Gharo pumping station in Thatta district. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) said this.

According to a spokesman for the corporation, the power cut has also affected the new and old pump houses and the filtration plant at Gharo. As a result, the supply of water from the Gharo pumping station to Karachi has been temporarily halted.

The spokesman said the fault could cause water shortages in several areas. The corporation estimates that the power problem could create a shortfall of about 14 million gallons of water in the city.

According to the KWSC, despite the disruption, Karachi is still receiving about 536 million gallons of water.

The corporation did not say when power would be restored or normal supply from the pumping station would resume. Until the problem is resolved, residents of the affected areas may face a temporary break in supply or low pressure.
