ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has said that the PTI founder was fully aware of the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but he did not describe the end of the government as welcome.

Speaking to the media near Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar said Maulana Fazlur Rehman has his own party and his own politics. He said that, over the Maulana’s speech in the assembly, he had told him it would have been better not to use certain words.

He said that once again he believed political tension should not rise. The way government representatives responded was also inappropriate. If something is to be done for the country, the nation and democracy, tension will have to be reduced.

On Barrister Salman Safdar’s meeting with the PTI founder, the PTI chairman said that this was Salman Safdar’s first meeting after 8 April, and after 380 days, which was welcome. He said such great tension had arisen because meetings had been stopped.

He said that if a prisoner is not allowed to meet his family within 15 days, it is a violation of human rights. Had meetings taken place, there would have been improvement, there would not have been this tension, and governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would not have become necessary.

Barrister Gohar said he had already denied that his name had been finalised for the meeting. According to him, he had always tried to arrange meetings for political people, and had tried for his own name and also that of Allama Nasir Abbas. When a political meeting could not be arranged, he tried for Salman Safdar’s meeting, which took place.

On the demand for the recovery of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and the Speaker, he said a hearing was held today in the Peshawar High Court, which has been referred to a larger bench, and he hoped the petition would be heard soon. In his words, the disappearance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and the Speaker is beyond understanding.
