Government rejects social media allegations against Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti
BALOCHISTAN: A campaign of negative propaganda and unverified reports against Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has continued on various social media platforms for the past few days.
Various allegations and claims have surfaced. They apparently aim to damage the Chief Minister Balochistan’s political standing and public trust.
According to reports attributed to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, some fake social media accounts have also been used in the campaign. This makes a transparent investigation into the whole situation all the more necessary.
Political disagreement is a basic requirement of a democratic system, and every citizen has the right to criticise the government’s policies, decisions and performance. However, making allegations on the basis of unverified reports and defaming a person through social media is not responsible conduct.
In an important and sensitive province like Balochistan in particular, political stability, Law and Order and the continuity of development require that national and provincial matters be viewed seriously and on the basis of facts.
Performance and reforms
During his tenure, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has taken a number of steps on administrative reforms, promotion of merit, better public services and the implementation of development projects.
His government has introduced reform measures in various sectors to improve the performance of government departments and ensure transparent use of public resources.
His clear stand against Terrorism has also been discussed at the national level, and he has presented Balochistan’s case at various constitutional, political and national forums.
In recent days, reports circulated on Social Media about the alleged arrival of some officials at the Chief Minister’s House, their stay there for several hours, and the taking into custody of important official documents, laptops and PSDP files.
On the other hand, Shahid Rind, aide to the Chief Minister Balochistan for information and political affairs, speaking to journalists at the Quetta Press Club, called the allegations fabricated and contrary to facts, and rejected the reports. Reports merely circulating on Social Media cannot be treated as fact.
Merit in government recruitment
The Balochistan government has also taken steps to ensure merit and transparency in government jobs. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti directed the secretaries of all departments that no political interference, personal preference or recommendation be accepted in government recruitment, and that appointments be completed in line with the prescribed rules and merit.
The main aim of this step is to provide equal opportunities to young people and strengthen the system of transparent recruitment in government institutions.
Balochistan currently needs continued attention and practical measures in key areas such as education, health, employment, infrastructure, Law and Order and administrative improvement.
In such circumstances, it would be more appropriate to judge the government’s performance on solid facts, policy measures and the facilities provided to the public, rather than pursuing political differences through personal allegations and unverified reports.
Every political party, citizen and concerned quarter has the right to criticise the performance of the government of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and to disagree with its decisions. However, it is not right to present any allegation as fact without verification.
It is necessary to promote the responsible use of Social Media, avoid spreading unverified reports, and give primary importance to evidence, legal requirements and facts in every matter.
The development of Balochistan, the stability of institutions and the protection of public interests are the shared responsibility of all political and social circles.
