Mary Kom says her biopic showed only 10 per cent of her struggle

NEW DELHI: Renowned Indian boxer Mary Kom has called the film on her life unrealistic. She said it showed only 10 per cent of her struggle and hard work.
In an interview with an Indian newspaper, Mary Kom said that to understand the real hardships and struggles of her life, people should read her book, Unbreakable.
She said there was no need to make a second part of the film, because the story of her career and life had already been told in the film and the book.
Actress Priyanka Chopra played the lead role in the film Mary Kom, released in 2014. The film showed Mary Kom’s boxing career and achievements. Priyanka Chopra also received the National Film Award for Best Actress for the role.
Mary Kom won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. She has also been world boxing champion 6 times.
In an interview in 2022, Priyanka Chopra had admitted that it would have been more appropriate to choose an actress from north-eastern India for the role of Mary Kom. Mary Kom belongs to the state of Manipur, while Priyanka is from northern India, and their physical builds were also different.
Priyanka Chopra said she had accepted the role because she was inspired by Mary Kom’s life. To prepare for it, she trained in boxing for about 5 months and also changed her physique.
