Iran claims it seized US spy drone near Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it has seized a United States spy drone, also used for deception, in the area west of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Arab TV, the Revolutionary Guards said the US drone was captured west of the Strait of Hormuz.

The available report gave no further details about the type of drone, how it was seized or when the operation took place. The report also did not include any reaction from US officials to the Iranian claim, or any independent confirmation of the drone’s identity.

The Strait of Hormuz is an important sea route for global trade and energy supplies. Amid the ongoing tension between the United States and Iran, reports about military activity in the area and about surveillance drones carry significance.
