MELBOURNE: Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. Maxwell, 38, had an international career spanning 14 years.

He last played for Australia against Oman in their final match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. It turned out to be his last international match. He had already retired from one-day cricket in 2025. He has now also given up T20 internationals and playing for his state, Victoria.

Maxwell played 149 ODIs, 130 T20s and seven Tests for Australia. He was part of the teams that won the ODI World Cups of 2015 and 2023 and the T20 World Cup of 2021.

In ODIs, he scored 3,990 runs at a strike rate of 126.7. In T20s, he made 2,897 runs at a strike rate of 154.4. His highest T20 score was an unbeaten 145 against Sri Lanka in 2016. He took 51 wickets in T20s and held 62 catches. In all, he has ten international centuries and 136 international wickets.

His double century against Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup, while chasing a difficult target, is regarded as his most notable innings.

In a podcast, Maxwell said that telling his teammates about his decision after his last ODI for Victoria was harder than he had expected. He said he was grateful for the chance to represent his country.

Maxwell will continue to play T20 franchise cricket, including for the Melbourne Stars in the next Big Bash League.
