ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the Jinnah Medical Complex Islamabad will provide the latest treatment facilities to patients from across Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

He was chairing a review meeting on Monday on the under-construction hospital, which is being built to World standards, in Islamabad. He said progress on the construction of the complex was satisfactory, but the targets must be met within the set time.

The prime minister directed that all appointments at the Jinnah Medical Complex be made transparently and on merit. He directed that a private organisation be hired to run it and ensure the best international standard of treatment. He also directed that modern diagnostic facilities be provided to low-income and middle-class patients, and that PET scans and other advanced diagnostic facilities be made a key part of the project.

Progress on the project

The meeting was told that 59 per cent of the work on the Jinnah Medical and Research Centre (JMCRCI) had been completed. The basic structure of the main hospital and the parking plaza is complete. The 403-bed project is to be made operational by 23 March 2027.

Work is also under way on the installation and maintenance of medical equipment, the hospital’s digital management system and other administrative matters. The briefing said national competitive bidding had begun under the revised design for Phase II of the Jinnah Medical and Research Centre in H-11, and construction would start soon. Work is also continuing on the purchase of modern diagnostic machinery and scanners.

Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Syed Mustafa Kamal and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and senior officials concerned, attended the meeting.
