New round of indirect US-Iran talks to be held today: Axios

Axios has reported, citing sources, that Qatari mediators are continuing their indirect diplomatic efforts to help Washington and Tehran reach an agreement. They will meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the US president’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, separately today.

The website said it is still unclear whether the two sides will be able to resolve their established differences during the talks.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States would hold a new round of talks with Iran next week. Iran, in this context, affirmed that diplomacy is the only solution to its dispute with the United States.

The statement from Iran came a day after President Trump announced that he had rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the strait and end the war.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, “Our conditions are clear, and any step towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz depends on those conditions being met.” He said only a negotiated solution could get them out of this quagmire.

US President Trump said Iran wants to open Hormuz because its economy is dying, and that the United States has full control of the strait. “Iran wants a deal and I also want a deal, but Iran’s proposal is not acceptable,” he said.

Meanwhile, Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akram said the United States could carry out a fresh attack on Iran, which he described as a critical regional situation. He said Tehran is ready for a confrontation and is capable of inflicting greater damage on Washington.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Iran is ready for genuine diplomacy and is also prepared for a devastating war.
