MADRID: The death toll from a collision between two trains near Ordaa, south of the Spanish capital Madrid, has passed 60. According to BBC Urdu, a Renfe train hit an Iryo train that was standing on the track.

Many of those injured in the accident are being treated in hospitals. Dozens of them are said to be in a critical condition.

Spain’s Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, called the accident “truly incredible”. According to him, six trains were initially stopped because of a fault in the computer system. Both trains involved in the accident were among them.

The Transport Minister said that after the fault, the control centre took charge and later decided to restart the trains. No speed restriction was in place at the time.

According to Puente, the decision to restart the trains was taken “in inexplicable circumstances”. As a result, the Renfe train hit the Iryo train standing ahead of it.
