The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), based in Kangpokpi, condemned the attack. It described the attackers as militants active under the leadership of Tangkhul.
The Tangkhul are a branch of the Naga community, and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim, Isak-Muivah group (NSCN-IM), has strong support among the community.
