Houthi attack on Shabwa training camp kills 58; four missiles fired at Marib

SANAA: A Houthi attack on a training camp of government security forces in Yemen’s Shabwa province on Monday killed 58 people and wounded more than 200. Governor Awad al-Wazir said 14 people were missing after shelling of the Al-Alam camp.
A video verified by Reuters showed wounded people and bodies lying on the ground. According to local sources who did not wish to be named, the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at security personnel during a training exercise.
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said on X that the target was a camp which, he claimed, was run by Saudi forces. Saudi officials did not immediately respond.
Shabwa is an energy-rich province in the south-central coastal region. It is home to the Balhaf LNG project, Yemen’s largest industrial investment.
Meanwhile, on Monday night the Houthis fired four ballistic missiles at the government-held city of Marib. According to the local administration, the target was the densely populated city, which hosts a large number of displaced people. No details of damage were given. Eight missiles had been fired a day earlier, while on 15 October residential areas were targeted with nine ballistic missiles and seven other projectiles. According to official figures, Marib is home to more than 2.2 million displaced people.
The army said Houthi attacks on the Kahbub front in western Lahj were repulsed. According to a statement from the army-linked Southern Giants Brigades, clashes lasted several hours and the attackers were forced to retreat.
The Joint Forces Command of the Saudi-led coalition warned the Houthis against bringing weapons and military supplies into Yemen on traditional boats. It appealed to boat owners not to cooperate with them.
