University of Turbat BS Botany students visit Tufail Agricultural Farm in Jusak
TURBAT: The University of Turbat is continuing scientific and practical research in line with modern needs. As part of this effort, BS Botany students of the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences made an educational and research visit to Tufail Agricultural Farm in Jusak, Turbat.
Field visit and research
The main aim of the field visit was to give students the chance to observe at first hand the diseases affecting plants, fruit trees and crops, and to diagnose them on a scientific basis. Under the supervision of the head of the department, Dr Irshad Miyar, and course instructor Mehnaz Karim, the students closely examined crops affected by bacterial and viral infections.
The students put their classroom knowledge into practice. They not only identified the symptoms of the diseases but also collected scientific samples of affected branches, soil and roots for laboratory research. Once laboratory tests on the samples are complete, the final findings will be shared with local farmers so that they can protect their crops from disease and get a better yield.
Vice chancellor’s message
According to a spokesman for the University of Turbat, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Gul Hassan praised the efforts of the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences for giving students quality academic and practical experience. In his message, the vice chancellor said the University of Turbat wants students to test in the field what they learn in the classroom, so that scientific solutions can be found to the region’s problems, especially those related to Agriculture.
He added that linking students with field research and offering the local community scientific solutions to various problems are among the core goals of the University of Turbat’s Strategic Plan 2026-2030.
At the end of the visit, Dr Irshad Miyar thanked the farm’s owner, Prof Tufail Baloch, for providing facilities and support for the students’ practical training.
