PM angry over power outages, orders no area to face more than two hours

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important review meeting on electricity load management in the country. The meeting reviewed the rising load shedding in various cities.

Expressing anger over the unusual load shedding, the prime minister directed the officials concerned to provide relief to the public.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting was briefed on the supply of RLNG in view of the recent situation in the region. The briefing said tension in the Strait of Hormuz and transport difficulties had affected RLNG supply, which reduced power generation.

Officials said load management had to be carried out to keep demand and supply in balance because RLNG supply had been affected.

Shehbaz Sharif directed that immediate steps be taken to deal with the disruption in RLNG supply and that all available resources be used effectively for power generation and transmission.

He made it clear that no area should face load shedding of more than two hours.

The statement added that the prime minister also issued orders to set up Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees at the level of the distribution companies (Discos) to resolve the complaints of electricity consumers in time.

The prime minister directed that public representation also be ensured in the committees set up to address complaints, and that all the Grievance Redressal Committees be made functional within a week.
