Khawaja Asif says governments arrest first, then decide the charge

SIALKOT: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has criticised the practice of political revenge, saying that when governments want to arrest someone, they arrest first and then think about which charge to bring.
He was talking to journalists in Sialkot on Saturday. According to Geo News, he said this had been the conduct of civilian governments. The report said he himself had been taken into custody four times. He said political revenge is never in the country’s interest.
His remarks come at a time when tension continues between the ruling PML-N and the main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The PTI has repeatedly accused the federal government of political revenge, citing the imprisonment of founder Imran Khan and other leaders.
The opposition has also criticised the imposition of an emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 11 October, which left the PTI’s provincial government inoperative. According to Geo News, after this move by the federal government, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and several members of his cabinet were taken into protective custody.
