ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has pasted a notice on the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, ordering the removal of illegal constructions and encroachments within 15 days. The notice was issued on Friday.

The notice directs that security guards’ cabins and a generator installed on CDA land be removed. An extra kitchen built inside the house has also been declared a violation of building regulations.

The authority has warned that, if the order is not followed, the building may be sealed or the unauthorised structures may be demolished. The notice was issued in the name of Amanullah, son of Muhammad Younas, as the owner of the building. It also states that the CDA had earlier, on 18 March 2019, directed the removal of encroachments from the residence.

The CDA has also marked violations at the building of Idara Maarif Islamia, Shariah Rabbania and Tafseer ul Quran in F-8/3, Islamabad, and has asked for them to be removed within 15 days. Madrasa Akhtar ul Uloom, near the Korang Nullah in Bilal Town, has been given 15 days to submit a building plan, as it was built without an approved plan.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s son, Maulana Asjad Mehmood, called the move an act of revenge. He said it was done because of his father’s political differences with the government. According to him, the action began after the encroachments were pointed out. He expressed concern at political differences being turned into personal vendetta and urged workers to remain vigilant.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, speaking to a private television channel, said it was a routine action. He said the campaign against illegal construction in Islamabad had been going on for more than a year, starting with the upscale sectors. According to him, notices have been issued to all owners with security cabins, generators or illegal construction on green areas. He said the action was being taken without discrimination.
