ISLAMABAD: A total of 427,435 Pakistani workers registered for overseas employment from January to September this year, according to official figures of the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE).

The figures show that Saudi Arabia and the UAE remain the top destinations for Pakistani workers, but the order of destination countries has changed. Registrations for Oman and Qatar have fallen sharply compared with their past highs, while interest in European and other non-traditional countries is growing.

The figures for previous years have fluctuated. In 2018, 382,439 workers registered. Because of Covid restrictions, the number fell to 225,213 in 2020 and rose to 288,280 in 2021.

After economies reopened, registrations rose to 832,339 in 2022 and reached a peak of 862,625 in 2023. The number was 728,509 in 2024, while 763,526 workers registered in 2025.

According to reports, the result for the full year will depend on registrations in the last quarter.
