Imad Wasim says Babar Azam’s past achievements should not be ignored

LAHORE: Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has questioned the criticism of star batter Babar Azam. He said his past achievements and services to national cricket should not be ignored.

Pakistan won the one-day tri-nation series against England and Sri Lanka, but Babar Azam’s batting form remains under criticism. In the final against Sri Lanka, he was out for a duck, dismissed off five balls. Pakistan still won by 3 wickets, thanks to a superb innings of 127 runs by Fakhar Zaman.

In a message on the Social Media platform X, Imad Wasim called Babar Azam a superstar and one of Pakistan’s best ODI batters. He said nearly a decade of consistent performance and achievements should not be forgotten because of a difficult period.

According to Imad Wasim, it is right to question Babar’s form, analyse his technique and debate his performance, as no player is above criticism. However, he criticised those who pass off personal motives, jealousy and character assassination as Cricket analysis.

He said that, along with pointing out Babar’s weaknesses, constructive suggestions for improvement should also be given. He said Pakistan Cricket should encourage its big players, and should not target them in difficult times and let their past achievements be forgotten.
