CDA issues notices to Islamabad madrassas over building control violations

ISLAMABAD: Several madrassas linked to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), have been found violating building control laws and approved construction regulations in the federal capital.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued notices to the managements of various madrassas. It has directed them to remove illegal construction and submit the relevant records.
According to sources, the CDA has issued a notice to Madrassa Akhtar-ul-Uloom in Bilal Town, Korang Nullah, Khanna Dak, for construction without an approved building plan.
The notice directs the management to submit the building’s construction map and relevant documents within 15 days. Otherwise, it warns of legal action, including sealing the building.
Similarly, alleged violations of building control laws have also been identified at Idara Ma’arif Islamia, Shariah Rabbania, Tafheem-ul-Quran, House No 3, Street No 6, Sector F-8/3.
According to the CDA, illegal construction has been carried out within the prescribed setback of the madrassa building. Unauthorised construction has also been found on the roof. The authority has also objected to the building being used as a madrassa instead of a residence.
The authority said that if the orders are not complied with within the given period, action may be taken, including sealing the building, imposing fines and cancelling the allotment.
The CDA said it has begun action against various buildings, including madrassas, to ensure compliance with approved plans, construction regulations and rules on designated land use.
