Salman Khan explains why grandfather opposed his parents’ marriage

MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has spoken for the first time about his grandfather’s displeasure at the marriage of his father, Salim Khan, and his mother, and about his own role in his parents’ quarrels. He described it as a lesson in life for people.
Speaking on the reality show Bigg Boss, Salman Khan said there was no religious objection at the time of his parents’ marriage. However, his grandfather was unhappy that a handsome man wanted to become an actor and that his daughter was marrying into the film industry.
According to him, his grandfather objected only on this point, while his mother’s siblings were happy and liked his father. His grandfather wondered how his daughter would live in that environment.
Regret after five years
Salman Khan said his grandfather did not speak to his father for five years. When Sohail was born, he came to the Bandra house with a box of jalebi and expressed regret. He said he had made a very big mistake, had not seen his grandsons grow up and had lost the chance to talk to a good man because of something on his mind.
He said his grandfather regretted until his death that he had wasted five years and had not spoken to Salim Khan.
Mention of quarrels
Speaking about his parents’ quarrels, Salman Khan said that once or twice, when his parents quarrelled and his mother went to her parents’ home, his grandfather did not allow her to enter. He told her to go back to her own home, saying: this is your home and you can come any time, but you will not come here after a quarrel.
