GOJRA: Pakistan’s junior Hockey team beat Guangdong 5-2 in the sixth match of the six-match Test series being played in the name of Pakistan-China friendship at the International Hockey Stadium in the Olympic Village. According to The Express Tribune, the match was played on Wednesday.

The aim of the match was to promote friendship between Pakistan and China and to strengthen ties in the field of Sports. The Pakistani players played well from the start and kept up the pressure on the opposition. According to The Express Tribune, Pakistan led 3-2 at half-time and sealed the win with two more goals in the second half.

Toba Tek Singh Deputy Commissioner Mahum Asif Malik, Toba Tek Singh DPO Akhlaq Tarar, PHF Director Domestic and High Performance Olympian Tahir Zaman, Director Administration Colonel (retd) Nasir Akhunzada and PHF media head Waqas Sheikh were also present at the match.

According to The Express Tribune, the Guangdong team also played several Pakistani departmental sides during its tour. Rangers beat the Chinese team 3-1, Mari Energies 5-2 and Customs 3-2. At the Nasir Bunda Hockey Stadium in Islamabad, Pakistan Navy beat the visitors 3-1, while the Chinese side beat Pakistan Army 4-2 in a shoot-out after a tough contest.

According to the report, the aim of these matches is to give departmental teams and junior players the chance to play against foreign opponents, as the Pakistan Hockey Federation is working to revive Hockey in the country. Pakistan was once a leading force in world Hockey and has won three Olympic gold medals and four World Cups. In recent years, however, it has not been able to keep up that standard and has fallen behind the top teams.

The PHF is working on developing players at the grassroots level, improving domestic competitions and creating clear paths to the national team for emerging players. The series against Guangdong is also part of this effort.
