ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani ambassador to the United States Dr Maleeha Lodhi has said the war between the United States and Iran appears to be ending after President Donald Trump’s election defeat. She said this in a conversation on a private television channel.

According to her, either a path to talks will open, or Congress may use its authority to pass a resolution ending the war.

Maleeha Lodhi said that if control of Congress passes to the party opposed to Trump, its members will try to reopen various cases against him. She said proceedings already before the courts could also speed up, and the time for President Trump’s accountability may have come.

She said that after the defeat, President Trump will have to change the way he runs the government. In her words, the strategy of threatening, scaring and abusing people has failed. Trump will now be under pressure.

On Pakistan-US relations, she said the present developments are no different from history, and that ties have improved considerably over the past year and a half.

Meanwhile, after the Republican Party’s defeat in the Senate elections, Vice President JD Vance, in his reaction on X, named the Iran war, inflation and ties with Israel as the reasons for the loss. He said Republicans paid for believing the war was right by losing the Senate for six years. According to him, the basic problem was also that Republican voters did not leave their homes to vote.
