JIWANI: An Open Court (Khuli Kachehri) was held at the Government Boys High School, Kohsar, under the chairmanship of Jiwani Assistant Commissioner Tariq Ali. It was held to resolve public problems at people’s doorsteps, in line with the people-friendly vision and public service policies of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and on the special directions of Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar.

Representatives of the Akra Brigade, Jiwani Municipal Committee Chairman Akram Hayat and Jiwani Deputy Superintendent of Police Zahid Hussain attended. Officers and representatives of the police, Health, Quetta Electric Supply Company (Kesco), revenue, municipal committee and other departments also took part. So did public representatives, councillors, chairmen, political and social figures, and citizens from different areas in large numbers.

Addressing the gathering, Assistant Commissioner Tariq Ali said that, in line with the directions of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar, the district administration’s first priority was to give people prompt, transparent and effective services. He said the purpose of Open Courts was to hear public problems directly and ensure timely and lasting solutions through the departments concerned.

Citizens raised a number of important public issues. These included security arrangements and road closure timings, the issuing of birth and death certificates, the supply of clean drinking water, the condition of the Rural Health Centre Jiwani, completion of ongoing development projects, illegal trawling, rising prices of essential items and drug dealing.

Decisions on health, water and development projects

The forum was told that Rs28 million had been approved for the repair and rehabilitation of the Rural Health Centre Jiwani and that the tender process had begun. It was said that its completion would bring a marked improvement in Health facilities.

On the shortage of drinking water, it was decided that an immediate meeting would be held with the officers of the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure an uninterrupted supply. Jiwani Municipal Committee was directed to activate the computerised birth and death registration system (CRSM) immediately.

The ongoing PSDP projects include the BHU Bandari, the Football ground in Jiwani, the Gabd Middle School and boundary walls for several educational institutions. To ensure their timely and quality completion, the Assistant Commissioner announced a joint inspection of the projects with the engineers and contractors concerned. He said the pace and quality of work would be ensured in line with PC-I.

Action on trawling, inflation and drugs

After the Fishermen community expressed serious concerns over illegal trawling, the Fisheries Department was directed to take action without discrimination against illegal trawling in prohibited areas, so that marine resources could be protected.

Over complaints of profiteering and artificial Inflation in markets, it was decided to set up a Price Control committee in Jiwani sub-division. It was also decided that essential items would be sold according to the official price list, and that legal action would be taken against violators through regular market inspections.

Expressing serious concern over the growing trend of drug dealing, the police were directed to launch a full crackdown on drug dealers so that the younger generation could be protected from this menace.

At the end of the Open Court, the Jiwani Assistant Commissioner thanked all participants. He pledged that such public outreach programmes would continue regularly under the vision of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti for public service, the effective leadership of Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar and the district administration’s coordinated strategy.
