GWADAR: In line with the people-friendly vision of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the Gwadar district administration is active in resolving public issues promptly and effectively. In this connection, a representative delegation of fishermen met Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar. They discussed in detail the problems related to Beach Chum fishing, difficulties affecting their livelihoods and matters concerning the fisheries sector.

The delegation told the Deputy Commissioner that the ban on Beach Chum fishing was affecting the livelihoods of hundreds of fishermen and their families. They requested that the matter be reviewed afresh and a solution found that would protect the economic interests of the fishermen. The delegation also asked for compensation for the recent financial losses and for related matters to be resolved in accordance with the law.

The delegation said Beach Chum is an important export fish with significant demand in the world market, and that the livelihoods of hundreds of families in Gwadar district depend on its trade. They expressed hope that the district administration would ensure positive progress in the matter.

Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar listened to the delegation’s problems in detail and assured them that the district administration was taking the fishermen’s genuine concerns seriously. He said all legal and administrative aspects would be reviewed in consultation with the departments concerned, so that a balanced and lasting solution could be found that was in line with the law, the public interest and the protection of the fishermen’s livelihoods.
