GWADAR: The Fisheries Department has stepped up action against the use of illegal and banned nets. It is continuing to check boats and canoes at Padi Zar Beach in the Gwadar sea.

On the instructions of Director Fisheries (Marine) Ahmed Nadeem and under the supervision of Assistant Director Fisheries Gwadar Shah Fahad, the department’s monitoring team inspected the mesh size of nets on various boats and canoes. It strictly instructed fishermen to refrain from using banned nets.

According to the Fisheries Department, legal action is being taken against those who violate the rules by using nets of mesh size 26, 27, 28 and 114. Officials said that catching small fish with banned nets harms fish breeding and the natural balance of marine life. They said the use of such nets would not be allowed. Fishermen who violate the rules will face action under the law, and the responsibility will rest with the person concerned.

The Fisheries Department will continue monitoring and checking in coastal areas, including Padi Zar Beach. It has appealed to fishermen to use only legal and approved nets, to avoid catching small fish and to cooperate with the department in protecting marine life.
