KALAT: Deputy Commissioner Kalat Engineer Ayesha Zehri visited the Small Industries handicraft centre. She reviewed staff attendance, the technical and non-technical staff, the number of trainees, the weaving section, the staff room and other sections.

Assistant Director Haji Saleh Muhammad and Assistant Manager Abdul Fattah showed her around the centre. They briefed her on the ongoing vocational training programmes, including courses in embroidery, tailoring and carpeting. The Deputy Commissioner met the trainees and asked about their problems. They also told her that their stipends have been stopped for the past two years. The trainees also presented the Deputy Commissioner with a traditional chadar made at the centre.

Engineer Ayesha Zehri said women are an important and active part of society. She said effective steps for their education, vocational training and economic independence are the need of the hour. She said institutions such as the handicraft centre are playing an important role in helping women learn traditional skills and bring their products to market. She said the district administration would extend all possible cooperation to improve facilities for women and solve their problems.
