QUETTA: The Social Welfare Department of the Balochistan government and HBL Konnect have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to make the implementation of the KUMAK programme for persons with disabilities more effective.

The MoU was agreed between Social Welfare Secretary Asmatullah Qureshi and HBL Konnect. It follows the efforts of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti for the welfare of persons with disabilities and the continued hard work of Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare Wali Muhammad Noorzai.

The MoU aims to ensure the transparent and effective delivery of financial assistance, educational facilities and other welfare measures to persons with disabilities under the KUMAK programme.

Under the programme, the Balochistan government will provide stipends and educational facilities for persons with disabilities. The cost of education up to PhD level will also be met by the Balochistan government. Other facilities, including interest-free loans, will be provided to help persons with disabilities become financially independent.

Through HBL Konnect, access to these facilities and financial assistance for eligible persons will be made easier, more transparent and more effective. This will further strengthen, in practice, the Balochistan government’s measures for the education, financial independence and social inclusion of persons with disabilities.
