Design wing is backbone of department, says Communications Minister Saleem Khosa

QUETTA: Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa has said that bringing the design wing of the Communications and Works Department in line with modern requirements is an important need of the time, as the design wing is the backbone of the department.
He said this at a briefing given by the design wing. Secretary Communications and Works Babar Khan, Chief Engineer Design Wing Jamal Ahmed Bugti, Chief Engineer Federal Projects Dr Sajjad Baloch and other officials were present.
Secretary Babar Khan gave details of the design wing’s current performance, the availability of technical staff, the procurement of modern machinery and other administrative matters. He said the design wing needed more modern equipment and trained technical staff to be run on modern lines. He said the process of recruiting technical staff on an ad hoc basis had begun, after which the wing’s capacity would increase considerably.
Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa said the provision of modern machinery, equipment and technical staff would not only improve the department’s performance markedly but also make the preparation and completion of development projects faster and more effective. He said the government would take every possible step to increase the design wing’s capacity, and the required machinery, modern equipment and manpower would be provided.
He said a stronger design wing would reduce the department’s reliance on private consultancy firms, which would save public funds and increase revenue. He said all available resources would be used to make the Communications and Works Department an active and self-reliant institution in line with modern requirements.
