Crackdown on cancelled-permit local buses in Quetta: 5 buses shut, 3 owners held

QUETTA: On the orders of the Balochistan High Court and the directions of Secretary Transport Hayat Kakar, a crackdown was carried out in Quetta on 5 September against dilapidated local buses running on permits cancelled under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance and Rules.
Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Quetta Naimatullah Tareen carried out the operation on several routes with his staff, SP Traffic Saddar Quetta Asim Shah and the traffic police. Five dilapidated buses with cancelled permits were shut down, three bus owners were arrested and an FIR was registered against one bus owner.
According to officials, the RTA had already cancelled the permits of all these buses over their poor condition and violations of the law. Even so, they were being run illegally on various routes.
Naimatullah Tareen said vehicles with cancelled permits and dilapidated vehicles would not be allowed on the roads under any circumstances. He said action against transport that put citizens’ lives at risk would continue without discrimination. Only 2022-model Coasters and IS vehicles will now be allowed to ply the inner roads of Quetta.
