Meat packaging plants to be set up in Hub and Turbat; chief secretary orders priority work

QUETTA: A key meeting on setting up a meat packaging plant was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan. It considered developing the livestock sector in the province on an industrial basis and modernising the system of meat packaging and exports.
Meat packaging plants will be set up in Hub and Turbat so that meat can be exported abroad after standard processing locally. The Secretary Livestock briefed the meeting on the outline of the project, infrastructure requirements and export capacity.
The chief secretary directed that the project be taken forward on a priority basis so that new jobs are created in the province and the local economy is strengthened.
Value addition, cold chain and exports
The project will not be limited to meat processing. It will also promote value addition, transport, cold chain and export facilities in Balochistan’s livestock sector. Such strategic projects aim to strengthen local industries and speed up the province’s economic recovery.
Setting up the plants in Hub and Turbat will help prepare meat to international standards, which could make access to Iran and other foreign markets easier. The meeting stressed that, once the project is completed, an effective administrative and technical framework should be put in place to increase exports from Balochistan.
The provincial government is giving importance to projects that make better use of local resources, in order to expand economic activity and for public welfare. The chief secretary directed the relevant departments to ensure transparency, speed and inter-departmental coordination in preparing and carrying out the project.
