GWADAR: Member of the Balochistan Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch met Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General Moeenur Rehman Khan in his office. GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, Changez Baloch and other officials concerned were also present.

The MPA was given a detailed briefing on the development projects under way in the city, the Old Town Rehabilitation Project, water supply, the distribution system and basic civic facilities. He was told that development work on the Old Town Rehabilitation Project was in its final stages, while several works had been completed. The project aims to improve basic facilities in the old areas of the city and give residents a better, safer and higher-quality environment.

Sawad Dam main source

The briefing said Gwadar city was currently receiving about 3.5 million to 4 million gallons of water a day. The main source is the Sawad Dam. As needed, a fixed quantity of water is also drawn from the Shadi Kaur Dam for a limited period about twice a week.

The recent water supply situation in Pasni was also explained. The GDA chief engineer said the water taken from the Shadi Kaur Dam for Gwadar was a fixed quantity and for a limited period, and did not affect Pasni’s fixed supply. He said that to resolve any water-related issue, coordination between institutions, a review based on facts and effective administrative steps were necessary.

The briefing said that about one year was to be completed since Gwadar city’s water supply system was handed over to the GDA. During this time, various steps had been taken to ensure continuous supply from available resources, monitor distribution and give priority to the needs of citizens.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman appreciated the steps being taken in the public interest. He stressed that all institutions should make their role more effective, with mutual cooperation, transparency and a spirit of public service, to provide basic facilities to the people of Gwadar, complete development projects on time and resolve public issues.
