QUETTA: A dignified flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Balochistan High Court on Pakistan’s Independence Day. Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail raised the national flag on the lawn of the court. Honourable judges of the High Court, officers and staff, lawyers and other concerned people attended the ceremony.
Congratulating the nation on Independence Day, the Chief Justice said 14 August was not merely a historic day but a day to renew an ideology, a pledge and a national responsibility. He said Pakistan came into being through the lasting sacrifices of the forefathers and leaders, their unshakeable faith, struggle and resolve. It was therefore the national responsibility of everyone to play a part in its security, progress and stability.
He said the real strength of a nation lay in unity, mutual trust, national solidarity and pursuit of a common goal. On the path of national progress, merit, honesty, the rule of law and the national interest would have to be given priority over nepotism, selfishness and personal interests.
Supremacy of parliament and the rule of law
The Chief Justice said that, to reap the true fruits of independence and build a strong state, the nation still had to cross several important milestones. He said upholding the supremacy of parliament, the rule of law and respect for the Constitution at all costs was the basic responsibility of state institutions. He added that the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and the provision of justice were the foundation of a strong Pakistan.
Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail said the judiciary would continue to perform its constitutional duties to provide justice to the people without discrimination. He said that, to further strengthen public trust in the judiciary, it was essential to remove the obstacles and difficulties in the judicial system. He said that, as the front line of the judiciary, the district judiciary bore the heavy responsibility of providing justice. It had to discharge this duty impartially, honestly and without fear or favour, because litigants approaching the courts came hoping for justice and redress of wrongs.
He said lawyers, the judiciary and all sections connected with the justice system should perform their duties impartially, honestly and in accordance with the law. He said the basic purpose of the supremacy of law and an independent judiciary was to free the people from oppression, injustice and exploitation and to provide timely justice. He said justice did not mean only issuing verdicts. It required ensuring the fair provision of their rights to all sections of society. Injustice could end only when every individual performed his duties honestly and refrained from trampling on the rights of others.
The Chief Justice expressed the resolve that the judiciary would continue to play its constitutional role fully for the supremacy of the Constitution and the law, the provision of justice without discrimination and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights. At the end of the ceremony, a special prayer was offered for the security, progress, prosperity and stability of Pakistan and for national unity.
