QUETTA: A meeting to review the performance of the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta on Monday. Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti presided over it.

The meeting reviewed key issues relating to cutting the institution’s unnecessary administrative expenses, restructuring and the effective use of available resources. Necessary decisions were taken.

Savings to fund more scholarships

The meeting was briefed that the resources saved by reducing the institution’s administrative expenses would be used to provide scholarships to more students. This, it was said, would help as many deserving and talented students as possible to pursue higher education.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund was an important institution. Its basic purpose, he said, was to give students better educational opportunities and to support young people who would otherwise miss out on higher education because of financial hardship.

He said the institution’s performance would be improved further through restructuring. He said available resources would be used more effectively while administrative expenses were reduced.

Directive for a transparent scholarship system

The Chief Minister said that providing scholarships to the children of martyrs, minorities and the transgender community was an important step. He said it reflected the commitment to equal access to education and to giving different sections of society the chance to move forward. He directed that the system for providing scholarships be made more effective, transparent and result-oriented, so that stipends reached truly deserving students.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti said promoting education and giving deserving and talented students the opportunity to advance were among the priorities of the Balochistan government. He expressed the resolve that, through the prudent use of public resources and institutional reforms, more students would be supported in pursuing higher education.

At the meeting, Chief Executive Officer of the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund Khalid Mandai briefed the participants on the institution’s performance and affairs. Finance Secretary Jehangir Khan spoke about the institution’s current expenses and the benefits expected from the proposed restructuring. The meeting reviewed matters relating to improving the institution’s performance, cutting unnecessary expenses and using the savings to provide educational stipends.
