QUETTA: An important meeting was held under Communications and Works Secretary Babar Khan to review progress on ongoing development projects across the province. The projects relate to making fruit and vegetable markets, grain markets, bus terminals and livestock markets functional and providing facilities in them.

Chief engineers of all six zones, officers, consultants and executive engineers attended the meeting via Zoom. The officials concerned gave a detailed briefing on progress on various projects, the challenges faced and the future course of action.

Secretary Babar Khan said agriculture and livestock are of fundamental importance to Balochistan’s economy. He said developing market infrastructure was therefore essential to bring these sectors in line with modern requirements. The government’s aim, he said, is to provide farmers, traders and the business community with modern and better facilities so that agricultural produce and livestock trade can be promoted further.

He said that under the ongoing projects, fruit and vegetable markets are being provided with sanitation, an effective drainage system, cold storage, parking areas and modern transport facilities. This, he said, will help maintain the quality of agricultural produce and give farmers and traders a better business environment.

Chief engineers told to review progress weekly

The Communications and Works Secretary directed that work be speeded up to complete all projects on time, and that chief engineers themselves review the progress of these projects every week. He made it clear that wherever technical or administrative problems exist, they should be resolved immediately so that development projects are not delayed.

He also directed the formation of a special technical team for an effective review of the progress and quality of the projects. The team will inspect the ongoing projects across the province and prepare a comprehensive report on their current status, quality and progress, to be submitted to the Secretary’s office.

Babar Khan said that, in line with the directives of the Balochistan government, every possible measure will be taken to complete all development projects within the set time and to provide better facilities to the public.
