Chief minister and speaker cannot be jailed under Constitution: Ali Zafar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Barrister Ali Zafar has said that under the Constitution a chief minister and a speaker cannot be jailed in this manner. Nor can they be picked up and taken to an unknown location. He said the Constitution had already been violated, but the government was violating it further.
Speaking at Parliament House, Barrister Ali Zafar said the parliamentary party had a role to play in the present situation. He said it had to take very important decisions without delay. He said the parliamentary party needed to be strengthened.
He said that the party’s parliamentarians are involved in every matter, whether protest or talks, so it is necessary that they take decisions. He said this did not mean that the Political Committee and the Core Committee had ceased to exist. Both committees, he said, were doing good work in their own place.
He said the nation, including the PTI founder and his family, should get justice. On new administrative units, he said his clear position was that provinces should be created when there is consensus, because there are many other problems at present.
