Court disposes of plea against Suhail Afridi’s disqualification as infructuous

ISLAMABAD (Atemad Desk): A court headed by Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan disposed of Sher Afzal Marwat’s petition regarding the disqualification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi as infructuous.
The Chief Justice remarked that the petition had become infructuous after the emergency and governor’s rule in the province, and that no proceedings could continue in view of recent developments. He said Suhail Afridi did not currently hold the office of chief minister, so the matter had become merely an academic question. If he was restored, the petitioner could file a miscellaneous application for revival, he said.
Justice Baqar Najafi said the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule was a separate matter and the case against the chief minister was no longer a live issue.
Petitioner Sher Afzal Marwat told the court that he wished to challenge the imposition of governor’s rule and the emergency. He sought a short adjournment in the petition against Suhail Afridi. The petition had asked the court to declare the forced resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur and the appointment of Suhail Afridi void, and to restore Gandapur as chief minister.
