Punjab district courts decide 2,934 of 3,397 Arms Ordinance cases in six months

LAHORE (Atemad Desk): On the special directives of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Justice Ms Aalia Neelum, district courts in Punjab have decided 2,934 of the 3,397 cases pending up to 2023 under the Pakistan Arms Ordinance 1965 in the past six months. This is more than 86 per cent.
All cases up to 2023 under the ordinance have been disposed of in 17 districts of the province. Of the 463 cases still pending in the remaining districts, a large number are linked to murder cases under trial.
The chief justice has directed that the murder trials linked to these cases be completed soon, so that the remaining Arms Ordinance cases can also be decided.
According to lawyers, this milestone was achieved owing to the chief justice’s directives, judicial reforms, an effective case management system and active monitoring. They say the digitisation of the judicial system is reducing pending cases and has increased litigants’ trust in the justice system.
