KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of a polio case in Karachi and called an emergency meeting.

Provincial Minister for Health Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah and Health Secretary Tahir Sangi attended the meeting.

The polio virus has been confirmed in a six-month-old child in Union Council Jamali Colony in Karachi’s District East.

The Sindh Chief Minister said it was worrying that a polio case had emerged in Karachi despite government efforts and continuous hard work.

He directed the Health Secretary to investigate the case fully and submit a detailed report. The report should state the main reason for the presence of the polio virus and how the case came to light. He also directed that the original source of the virus be traced and that all aspects be investigated.

Murad Ali Shah said immediate case response measures and full sweeping should be ensured in the affected area. He said the set protocol for polio eradication should be followed strictly and effective steps taken to stop its spread.
