Early detection, treatment and mental health care vital to cut breast cancer deaths, say experts

KARACHI: Psychologist Dr Taiba Kiran has said that, to reduce deaths from breast cancer, attention to patients’ mental health is essential alongside early detection and treatment.
According to her, cancer patients often suffer from sadness, anxiety and fear. They therefore need encouragement and mental support during treatment.
Speaking about global awareness of breast cancer, Dr Taiba Kiran said that, instead of ignoring the mental state of patients, it was necessary to understand their problems and provide suitable support.
An integrated system combining medical treatment with mental health care can help improve patients’ condition and assist the treatment process.
