KARACHI: A new polio case has been reported from Karachi East district in Sindh, bringing the total number of cases in 2026 to seven.

According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), of the seven cases reported this year, five came from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two from Sindh. The last polio case in Karachi was reported in December 2024.

Polio is an incurable disease, but it can be prevented through vaccination.

Anti-polio campaign

According to the National EOC, the national anti-polio campaign will be held from 2 to 8 November 2026. The drive will be carried out in 97 districts of the country, including all districts of Karachi.

During the campaign, more than 23.9 million children under the age of five will be given polio drops.

The National EOC said parents must have their children given polio drops in every campaign. They should also complete the routine immunisation course, along with the polio vaccine, on time.
