QUETTA (Online): The provincial secretariat of the Pakhtunkhwa National Awami Party has expressed serious concern over the closure of the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF).

In a press release issued by the party, the government was urged to withdraw the decision, restore the institution’s autonomous status and protect the jobs of all employees.

According to the statement, BEEF was established in 2014 with the approval of the provincial cabinet. It is a public sector company registered under the Companies Act 2017, and it has been run through its board of directors in matters of administration, finance and policy.

The statement said that since its founding, the institution has played an important role in promoting higher education by providing scholarships to thousands of deserving and talented students across the province.

It added that a recent notification ended the institution’s autonomous status and placed it under the Finance Department. The statement referred to the current government as the “Form 47 government”. According to the party, the decision has affected employees and put the future of scholarships for thousands of students in uncertainty.

In a separate notice, the Administration Wing of the Services and General Administration Department of the Government of Balochistan announced that a public holiday will be observed across the province on Monday, 9 November 2026, to mark the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the Poet of the East. All government offices and related public institutions will remain closed that day.
