Meena Majeed Baloch condemns extortion from transporters and vehicle arson
QUETTA: Provincial Adviser on Sports and Youth Affairs Meena Majeed Baloch met Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Hayat in his office. The meeting discussed the protection of transporters in Makran Division, particularly in Kech district and the new Tump district, and the recruitment of local youth into the police.
Meena Majeed Baloch condemned the alleged extortion of traders and transporters by banned organisations, and the burning of their vehicles when they refused to pay. She said such incidents hurt the livelihoods of working people, as many families depend on a single vehicle.
The adviser urged the IG Police to take immediate action, in accordance with the law, against those involved in extortion and harassment of transporters. She said effective security measures should be taken to protect the lives and property of traders, transporters and workers.
IG Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Hayat assured her that all available resources would be used to protect traders and transporters, act against those involved in extortion and make security arrangements more effective.
The meeting also discussed creating job opportunities for the youth of Tump district in the police. The IG Police said that, after Kech and Gwadar, police recruitment for Tump district was planned for the next phase. He said this would give local youth jobs and help strengthen policing in the area.
Meena Majeed Baloch said the Balochistan government would continue to work with the relevant security and administrative institutions to protect the lives and property of the people, promote trade and provide jobs for young people.
