FWO performed poorly in Balochistan, says Chief Minister Bugti

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has said that the experience of working with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) in the province has not been good. According to him, the FWO’s performance in Balochistan has been poor.
Speaking on a point of order in the Balochistan Assembly session, Member of the Provincial Assembly Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said that the NHA was not working in Balochistan and that its project director did not come to the province.
Responding to Dr Malik Baloch’s point of order, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said he had thought the FWO was a well-organised institution that spoke of quality. He said projects were given to it without tender, but, according to him, a substandard road was built in his own area, which the government later had to repair itself.
The chief minister said the FWO takes projects and hands them over to petty contractors, and those petty contractors do not do the work. He said the whole House agreed that the FWO had failed badly in the projects given to it.
The chief minister further said that development projects in the province are for the common Baloch. He said those who attack these projects, bring down bridges and destroy roads are not well-wishers of the Baloch, and are pushing the province into a pointless war. “We condemn this,” he said.
