NORTH DERA BUGTI: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti visited various development projects in North Dera Bugti district and reviewed the work under way on them. He also inaugurated several newly built government offices in the new district.

The chief minister said that setting up government offices in the new district was an important step towards giving people basic government services at their doorstep and making administrative matters easier to reach. He said that making government institutions functional and the administrative system effective in new districts was among the government’s priorities, so that citizens would not have to travel to distant areas to resolve their problems.

Instructions to officers

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti directed government officers to regard public service as their duty, ensure an open-door policy in their offices, be present at the appointed time and give priority to resolving citizens’ problems.

He said that people should not face unnecessary waiting and difficulty in getting their genuine problems resolved at government offices. He said that the basic purpose of the government machinery was to provide facilities to the public and ensure timely resolution of their problems. Officers’ performance, he said, should therefore be judged on the facilities given to the public, their conduct and the seriousness shown in resolving problems.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that making the administrative structure effective in new districts and ensuring that government institutions function was an important need of the time. He said that all the departments concerned would have to carry out their responsibilities effectively, so that obstacles to providing basic facilities could be removed and administrative matters improved.

Dams and construction quality

During the review of development projects, the chief minister stressed the importance of building water reservoirs and dams. He said that, given the water shortage in Balochistan, building water reservoirs was essential, but that the construction quality of these projects could not be compromised under any circumstances.

He directed that the prescribed standards and technical requirements be strictly followed in all development projects, including dams, so that the projects prove durable, effective and truly useful for the public. The chief minister made it clear that poor construction work in development projects would not be acceptable under any circumstances. He told the authorities concerned to ensure effective monitoring, transparency and timely completion of projects.

He said that public resources were a national trust and that their proper use was the government’s basic responsibility. He said that delays in completing development projects or lapses in quality harmed the public interest, so the officers concerned should carry out their duties with full honesty and accountability.

The Balochistan chief minister expressed the resolve that steps would continue to provide basic facilities, improve the administrative system and take the development process forward in all areas of the province, including North Dera Bugti. He directed the authorities concerned to make the monitoring of development projects effective and to put the public interest first in every administrative and development decision, so that the benefits of government measures reach citizens directly.
