GWADAR: Member of the Provincial Assembly from Gwadar Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman and Director General of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Moinur Rehman Khan formally opened a fish auction hall and a moleholders’ section at the Sur Bandar fish landing jetty. They also handed over allotment orders to the moleholders.

A large number of fishermen attended the ceremony. Also present were GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, Superintending Engineer Roads Nadir Baloch, Sur Bandar Jetty Project Director Haji Hanif Hussain, Executive Engineer Qasim Baloch, Sur Bandar Union Council Chairman Naseeb Nowshervani, well-known businessman and social figure Kahda Hameed Asa, and other officials and personalities.

The fish auction hall and the mole holding section had been out of use for a long time. They have now been made functional on the directions of the GDA Director General. A regular fish auction system is also being started. The aim is to give better facilities to the fishermen of Sur Bandar, organise the buying and selling of fish and promote the fishing sector.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said the introduction of the mole holding system and the opening of the fish auction hall by the GDA were an important facility and a gift for the fishermen of Sur Bandar. He said the buying, selling and supply chain of fish would become formal and organised, the fishermen’s economic activity would grow and local jobs would be created. He added that the income earned could be spent on the upkeep, operation and maintenance of the jetty.

Moinur Rehman Khan said the construction of the fish auction hall had been completed several years ago, but it had not been functional for certain reasons. He said the regular auction system would give fishermen a better and fair price for their fish, and trading would be more organised and transparent. He said income from the hall and other facilities would be spent on the operation, upkeep and improvement of facilities at the same jetty, because funds spent on public projects were the people’s own resources and their real benefit must reach the people.

Proposed causeway on Sur Bandar link road reviewed

Later, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman and Moinur Rehman Khan reviewed the proposed causeway project on the Sur Bandar link road. They directed that the causeway be designed and built on Climate Resilient principles, keeping in view the area’s weather, rain, flash floods and sea pressure. They said this would keep the road safe in severe weather, keep traffic moving and give people better travel facilities throughout the year.
