The meeting discussed introducing young people to parliamentary affairs, the democratic process and policymaking. It also discussed setting up an effective platform for youth in the province and making it more active.
The delegation briefed the governor on the organisational structure and aims of the Youth Leaders Parliament. According to the delegation, the structure has been modelled on Pakistan’s elected parliament. Its purpose is to give young people practical knowledge of parliamentary procedure, legislation, debate and the work of democratic institutions.
"Young people are a valuable asset of the country"
The Balochistan governor said young people were a valuable asset of the country. He said it was an important need of the time to make them aware of decision-making, democratic values and the parliamentary system. Young people are being given opportunities for positive and constructive dialogue on political and social matters so that they can play the role of responsible citizens and statesmanlike leaders in future.
The governor directed the Youth Leaders Parliament to make the platform more active and dynamic across Balochistan and to extend its reach to different districts of the province. He also stressed holding training programmes, debates, mock sessions and study activities to promote leadership, research, dialogue, critical thinking and problem-solving skills among young people.
Jaffar Khan Mandokhail said young people should be given opportunities to present their views on Balochistan’s educational, economic, social and development problems and to understand the policymaking process. He said the Youth Leaders Parliament could give young people practice in debating issues in different sectors, preparing proposals and finding solutions collectively.
He said the youth of Balochistan were full of creative ability and needed proper guidance, training and necessary opportunities. The governor also stressed the need to involve educational institutions, youth organisations and civil society in the activities of the Youth Leaders Parliament.
