Opium crop on 200 acres destroyed in Chagai’s Kardo area, solar tubewell panels smashed

CHAGAI: The Excise Department carried out a major operation in the Kardo area of Chagai district and destroyed a poppy (opium) crop illegally grown on about 200 acres. The joint action was carried out with the assistance of various law enforcement agencies.

Officials present at the site said personnel of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Pakistan Customs and other relevant departments took part in the operation. During the action, security personnel cordoned off the area and destroyed the opium crop grown over a wide area with the help of heavy machinery.

According to officials, the means used for the illegal cultivation were also put out of use. The panels of the solar tubewell system installed to irrigate the land were also smashed so that the land could not be used again for illegal cultivation of narcotics in future.

Officials said the action is part of the government’s ongoing campaign against illegal cultivation and smuggling of narcotics, and that more operations will continue in this regard.

Further investigation into the matter is also under way.
