China claims first satellite internet link across Arctic, Antarctica and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

BEIJING: The team of China’s 16th Arctic maritime expedition said on Monday that its polar icebreaker Jidi had successfully completed a pre-operation application test of domestically developed satellite internet on Arctic shipping routes.
Anadolu Agency, citing China’s state news agency Xinhua, reported that China’s own satellite internet had for the first time linked the Arctic, Antarctica and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is also called the Earth’s third pole.
According to the report, the network communication system was verified in all three regions for the first time during the expedition. The expedition team said the test had also filled the last gap in communication coverage in the world.
The expedition was organised under the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.
