LAHORE (Online) – Prominent scholars and elders affiliated with the Sunni Ittehad Council have issued a joint statement strongly condemning the killing of Pakistan Army soldiers in Balochistan.

The statement called on the government to implement the National Action Plan in its true spirit. The scholars said the reactivation of proscribed organisations was dangerous.

According to the statement, Pakistan Army martyrs are mujahideen of Islam, and the greatness of martyrs is mentioned in the Holy Quran. The scholars said those who sacrifice their lives protecting the state of Pakistan are the nation’s true heroes and assets, and they described the Pakistan Army martyrs as genuine heroes.

The scholars made clear that armed struggle against the state is not permissible at any level. In their words, any armed action against the Pakistani state is rebellion and a crime.

The statement also said that those who take up arms against the state of Pakistan are agents of India. The scholars demanded that India, which strengthens terrorists, be taught a bitter lesson. They said India’s terrorism in the region could create the risk of a major war.

The statement urged the government to take parliament into confidence on the Balochistan issue. The scholars alleged that terrorists had been given a free hand and that voices raised against them were being suppressed. They said giving proscribed organisations a free hand was causing terrorism in Balochistan to spiral out of control.

The statement also referred to Sahibzada Hamid Raza. The scholars described him as the most powerful voice against terrorism, a patriotic Pakistani and a brave leader of the nation. They demanded an end to his unjust detention and that the requirements of justice be met.
